First Simulcast
Roughly 1.5 hours ago, I saw my first simulcast (Aoi Hana) on CrunchyRoll. It almost didn't happen — I just skimmed an Okazu entry and followed the link without even noting the broadcast time, so the short countdown timer came as a bit of a shock.
I'm not here to sell you on Aoi Hana or CR. I'm pretty terrible at selling anybody on anything. So just briefly, my experience with streaming.
- If you get in during the countdown timer, there are no ads
- Full-screen SD gives me, essentially, a virtual 720p. For someone with terrible vision (more on this in the next entry), this is "good enough"
- Soft-subtitling with legible type-setting
- Localized translation and editing
- No buffering hiccups, although who knows how many people tuned in at the time
The one point that needs more than a bullet point, is that subtitles were not enabled by default. This was probably a glitch, but by the time I figured out something was up and switched subtitles on, the OP was over.
Oh, and accessible in Canada. Here's hoping this isn't a one-off thing because we're busy celebrating Confederation.
